Speakers
Jonathan Griffin, Private Client Partner
Jonathan has 20 years' experience in the private client arena with Grant
Thornton. He currently leads the firm's private client team in the East
Midlands which includes within it's client base six families from the Sunday
Times Rich List. His technical background is as a tax practitioner and he
has advised on a wide range of entrepreneurial situations including:
acquisitions and sales of businesses, international corporate planning,
inheritance tax, income tax planning, tax efficient investments, trusts and
capital gains tax issues.
His private client practice includes a substantial investment business and
Jonathan delivers a joined up wealth management service to his clients.
Whilst being a Chartered Tax Adviser, he has also passed Financial Planning
exams and works with his clients as their trusted adviser.
Grant Thornton's client base has always had an international flavour and
this has been reflected in the advice that Jonathan has given. Areas
include the structuring of international businesses, planning to break UK
tax residence to save tax and the structuring of wealth for non UK domicile
clients. Recent events have lead to a surge in the review of offshore
structures including the unravelling of many trusts and the exiting from the
UK of a number of clients. In addition Jonathan has recently been found
presenting on the changes for the international private client.
Jonathan is also national head of the firm's Entrepreneur and Private Client
practice. This is something that he is excited to be involved in and also
finds it positive that a major part of the firm is headed from the East
Midlands rather than out of London.

Lynsey Reeve, Private Client Tax Manager
Lynsey joined Grant Thornton as a private client tax specialist following 10
years experience in a big 4 firm.
Lynsey qualified as a chartered tax advisor in 2000. Before moving to
Nottingham she worked in various locations including Cambridge, Birmingham
and London, obtaining experience of dealing with a wide range of private
clients. Currently she deals with capital gains, inheritance and income tax
planning for entrepreneurial clients as well as high net worth individuals.
Specialising in international private tax planning, Lynsey has experience of
working in an international assignments team dealing with expatriate
taxation. She has advised on the tax consequences of emigrating from the UK
and migrating to the UK, working closely with overseas colleagues to provide
comprehensive advice. Much of Lynsey's work involves advising individuals
not domiciled in the UK. This includes advising on opportunities to
structure their affairs tax efficiently in terms of bringing some of their
wealth to the UK. More recently her role has involved reviewing the
extensive consequences of the current legislative changes that will have
effect from 6 April 2008. This is in relation to looking at worldwide assets
held personally as well as the use of offshore structures such as trusts and
companies. Lynsey has assisted Jonathan in presenting these changes for the
international private client at local seminars.
Lynsey is part of a growing advisory tax team that includes corporate and
financial planning specialists based in Nottingham although her work also
covers the Leicester and Derbyshire regions.
